Day 10 - Kinka Beach (no, not Kinky Beach)

Great drive in from Emerald, and the sight of sea & sand was a welcome change!

Kinka Beach is situated in a quiet spot 6Km north of Emu Park, and 16Km south of Yeppoon on the south barrier reef coastline. The stunning backdrop of the Keppel Islands is just fantastic scenery. Why would you pay for a plane ticket OS? Unless to see family of course!

We parked up the van and settled in, with a full day to explore Yeppoon and Emu Park the next day,

Bacon & Eggs was the order of the day for breaky and off we went, cameras at the ready, as the day was a perfect blue sky, little high level cloud, and no wind to speak of at all. Emu park is just a proud seaside town, everything in its place, and a place for everything. One could tell that each and every resident was proud of where they were and what they chose to show the world. Humble neat and tidy homes bar none - nothing fancy, just down to earth. It was an absolute pleasure to stroll around Emu Park, with its quaint emu statues scattered around town with notices attached depicting information.

Highlights were the RSL's wall of WW I & II information in a beautifully presented wall of remembrance on a hilltop opposite the RSL building - very moving to read it all, with references to local soldiers and nurses.

The "Singing Ship" was erected as a monument to Captain James Cook as he had named Keppel Bay in May 1770 - plenty of early history here!

Headed north to Yeppoon and more stunning views of the Keppel Islands. What could be better than calling into the local seafood shop for a kilo of banana prawns to go with some freshly cooked golden chips, consumed on a cliff top overlooking the bay with Great Keppel Is. as the perfect backdrop. It truly doesn't get any better than that!

More souvenir shopping, more scenery, and a leisurely drive back to Kinka Beach for some home cooked burgers for tea, a good rest ready for the final night at Elliott Heads the following day.
