Day 2 - Takarakka

The drive from Roma to Injune is via good sealed road and very easy. Roger Ranger performed flawlessly again, towing comfortably at the speed limit. Lots of kangaroos on the side of the road that sadly should have zigged and not zagged, which would make night driving along this stretch rather hazardous for motorists. Stopped at Injune to top up with fuel. Phone coverage was great from Roma to Injune, but 5Km north of Injune, that’s it – off the grid.

As you approach the last quarter of the journey along the A7, a taste of things to come rises up on the western horizon, with views of escarpments rather breathtaking even at a distance.

The turn off to Takarakka and the Gorge comes up rather unexpectedly, and the final 40Km into the campsites gives the answer to that age old question – “are we there yet?”. A sealed road all the way, narrow but safe, and widens in parts. Must keep a sharp eye on the edges of the road for roaming stock as there are no fences out here!

Arriving at Takarakka and checking in COVID style (contactless via your named envelope) – the tricky part is finding your site – they don’t do signage too well here! Once the van is parked and set, a quiet ale or two is in order.

Late in the day, into the Ranger and off to explore the starting points for our walks on day two (not that you want to overdo things). Settled back into camp for cocktail hour, some dinner and a movie. Zzzzzz…………..
